What a busy weekend of wedding photography and running! I ran the Great North Run on Sunday 16th September, but at 8:30pm the previous evening I was still at the Windsor Hotel Worthing photographing Wayne and Karen’s first dance!
Luckily the venue for Wayne and Karen’s wedding was the Windsor Hotel, which is literally a quarter of a mile from Occasion Photos HQ (ie my house)! It is a small but very pleasant and well presented hotel on Windsor Road, Worthing. There are well kept gardens including a small, romantic courtyard garden.
The weather was superb. Bright sunshine, warm and dry with no wind. I had a little trouble getting the lighting right for the group shots as, although the gardens are pretty, the sun meant there were few positions where everyone in the large party was in the shade.
I ended up shooting into the sun so people weren’t squinting and so there were no shadows on faces. The resulting photos needed some work in post production to bring the colours out and reduce the glare. But they are now edited and online for Wayne, Karen and their family and friends to view.
Staff at the Windsor Hotel were kind enough to serve me lunch as some of the wedding party had not turned up. I stayed as late as I dared in order to capture Wayne and Karen’s first dance. I think Wayne was a little reluctant. Dancing is often not a groom’s favourite pastime, especially when everyone is watching! But he was man enough to step up and give it his best.
My enduring memory of this wedding will be the little cartoon style bride and groom on top of the wedding cake and the way Wayne and Karen seemed best of friends. Rather uncomfortable in the spotlight, I was lucky enough to be with them alone as they sat down for a drink together moments after the ceremony. They seemed relieved to be alone, together without multitudes of people around them. Happy in each others company. That seems a nice way to be to me.
