This weekend has been very busy with two full days of photography and video at different weddings. Friday August 31st saw David and Gail getting married at Horsted Place Hotel near Uckfield, East Sussex. Initially the library had been set up as the venue for the ceremony. However, it was a beautiful day and it wasn’t long before a decision was made to move the wedding outside. The grounds of the hotel are very picturesque with a small summerhouse used as the officially licensed ‘room’.
I arrived early to take some shots of Gail getting her hair done and of the dress and shoes and other bits and bobs. I have some nice black and white images of the bride photographed in a mirror whilst putting her makeup on.
The lawn at Horsted Place Hotel is huge and the wedding party was small by comparison. Furthermore the summerhouse and seating was at the far end of the garden. Consequently Gail had rather a long walk down the ‘aisle’ after her reveal from behind a curtain at the French doors leading on to the lawn.
Unfortunately the sun, although bright and beautiful, was in the wrong place in the sky, which made photographing the ceremony rather a challenge. Still, it was a beautiful setting and thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. David and Gail have been together for many years but looked as excited as teenagers to be getting married!
I stayed through the wedding breakfast and in to the late afternoon, when an old Beaufort car arrived to take the newlyweds to their evening reception. Horsted Place Hotel is a gem of a venue just outside Uckfield on the road towards Lewes. It is small enough to feel cosy and welcoming, but large enough to still feel grand and stately. Very much enjoyed the day here and look forward to returning one day.
