It’s such a shame that the weather was so awful for Sara and Robert’s wedding because the venue, Field Place in Worthing, would look fantastic in the sunshine.
I had never been to Field Place in Worthing prior to this wedding, but I must say it is, as the sign outside states, Worthing’s best kept secret.
I began the day taking a few photos of Sara getting ready at her home. Sara and her mother immediately made me feel welcome and Sara’s sense of humour certainly made for a relaxed atmosphere in what is sometimes a very tense, nervy time for a bride.
There were between 80 and 100 guests at Field Place for the ceremony. It was a very simple event. No lavish decoration, no pomp and ceremony, but certainly lots of fun as both Robert and Sara fumbled with the rings and couldn’t stop giggling!
Field Place in Worthing dates from 1300 and takes its name from the original owner, William atte Felde. For centuries it was the manor house for Goring, Sussex. There are lush lawns and beautiful converted barns as well as the house itself. Had the weather not been so poor, the photographic opportunities outside would have been fantastic.
However, following the ceremony we took a number of pictures in front of a fire place in a beautiful, if rather dark, wood panelled room, before making our way out to the reception at the High Down Hotel, Goring, Worthing.
I took the big group photo on a wide staircase leading down to where the wedding breakfast tables had been set up. Again it was rather dark, but I think we have the shot in the bag.
I ate my lunch in the small tea rooms whilst the main meal was being served and made my way back in to photograph the speeches towards the end.
There was a live band in the evening and a buffet. Sara told me she had been looking forward to this part of the day most of all and she certainly let her hair down and appeared relaxed and happy with the way things had gone.
I found this an enjoyable but very tiring wedding to photograph. Perhaps it was the number of people, the cold or my failure to consume any healthy food during the course of the day! I think I lived on cake and sausage rolls for 12 hours! Field Place is certainly a pretty wedding venue and doesn’t deserve the title of Worthing’s best kept secret. I am surprised that I had not photographed there before, but I am sure I will be back as more and more couples discover Field Place in Worthing.
